Heide Art Gallery Competition with
Hargreaves Associates, San Francisco
Shortlisted
The competition called for an Urban Design Masterplan that included all of the land of the Gallery including Heide I and II and the historic bend in the Yarra River. The approach was to create a series of places in the landscape that recalled the ancient uses of the land and water flowing over the land - land that became an extension to the gallery and as a site for the its extensive sculpture collection.
The gallery spaces use the principles of natural but reflected light to create a series of ‘carriage’ spaces that step up the natural topography and create new spaces in and around the new and existing buildings.
